Reaching your Goals – How are you feeling?
No one said reaching your goals would be easy. At times we don’t want to face the reality of our lives and the truth can bring up negative emotions. We believe these negative emotions are bad and our brain tells us ways we can feel happy and have pleasure all the time. Go eat a treat, watch your favorite show or do something safe that doesn’t stretch your brain to new ways of doing things and reach your goals.

To reach our goals and get what we want out of our life we need to learn to resist these easy pleasures and go for what we really want. Due to these negative emotions we will fail at times, be scared and not sure what to do next. Understanding that this is coming can prepare us on how to deal with these negative emotions and resist the urge to find pleasure in the moment. Part of reaching your goals means you will need to resist simple pleasures and stay focused on your goals.
It would be so much easier if we could just purchase our goals, sometimes we think we can. But true happiness comes from the hard work. It comes from stretching your brain, and persuading it to go outside of your comfort zone. Setting a goal isn’t about achieving it, it is about the person you become in attaining it. You come up against your fear, your doubt, your disbelief and your shame and you know that this is all a part of it. As your process these emotions you learn, you grow and you achieve your goals!
When you start understanding how you are dealing with your negative emotions about your goal you will start responding differently. Instead of giving into your fear that you can’t do it, you will start taking small steps towards your goal instead of giving in to immediate satisfaction like eating some chocolate. Your brain will change and you will start to get pleasure in choosing to take care of yourself and fueling your desire to reach your goals and get what you want in life!
